After Me - SoFaygo

I'm so goddamn geeked, I'm so goddamn geeked

Short mixtape by rage trap artist I've never heard of. Doesn't quite do it for me but there are a few things I liked here. The production was generally pretty good. The beat on Off the Map simultaneously goes hard but also relaxes me. Not really much substance here outside of vibes, which is fine. Something that irritates me about this genre of hip-hop is an almost complete disregard for good lyrics just because it takes a back-seat to the melody or the flow? If there was even a little bit of effort in the lyricism this project would be a lot more interesting.

Everyday is one of my favourites from the album, the beat is nice and Sofaygo's flow is drippy. He talks about how claustrophic life feels with haters pulling him down. Despite a having a decent subject the track only has one-ish verse and lacks depth. If the song was longer and had another verse with more thoughtful lyrics there would be a large improvement. After eight tracks of this sort of thing I feel like he has nothing to say, and I don't really have anything to say either. I understand that not all music needs to be deep and meaningful, and some albums are just for fun and vibes. I can't say this album was very 'fun' (or musically interesting) in a way that I could enjoy it like that.

Beats are wavy and it's a nice vibe but lyrically there isn't anything here for me to enjoy. If it was a masterpiece instrumentally (like Die Lit, or something) it would be different, but the beats here are as nice as they are a bit boring. I can see some potential here but struggle to see what differentiates him from the rest of the genre.
